The Triplett CTX690 Network Toner and Probe Kit is designed specifically for locating and tracing cables on inactive or active networks, and live or dead phone lines, as well as coaxial video cabling systems. Today's media networks have a combination of twisted pair data, telephone voice, coax and security/alarm video wiring. The CTX690 provides two selectable powerful Net and Tel tones allowing cable installers and Datacom/Telecom technicians to plug directly into an active network, patch panel, network/telephone wall outlet or live phone line making it easy to quickly isolate the right wire/cable. The toner can generate pulse/warble tones, check continuity/polarity, and provide talk battery power. The probe tests include trace, hub blink, and link mode and has a built-in flashlight. Includes alligator clips, RJ45 and RJ11 connectors, F connector adapter for coax cable, spare tip, and a carrying case.

Update - 23, July 2020...Well this was working great, until an RJ45 jack that was labeled as data turned out to be a PBX phone jack. Didn't kill the Byte Brothers out right, but it definitely isn't working as well as it did (still smells like burnt electronics). I can't blame the device for this (I am blaming our cabling vendor) but some kind of over voltage protection would be a welcome addition. Also maybe a headphone jack on the wand considering how low volume the toner is. Still a good purchase, as I haven't found another device with the same features at this price point (although I am current taking suggestions)A previous employer had the 10/100 (without PoE) and it was great, this new version is even better and has more than met my needs and expectations. I only have need of it two or three times week but having the tracer, basic cable testing, and hub/switch detection in one small package is a huge convenience. For larger buildings/networks I do still keep a traditional tone generator in my vehicle, because this one can be on the quiet side and hard to hear in some of the larger server rooms. But this unit is always with me in my carry bag and is perfect for 99% of my regular sites. Not sure if this would satisfy a dedicated cabling tech who might have need of this type of tool multiple times daily, but I could not be happier.
